ILSI Southeast Asia was invited to participate in the ASEAN Consultation on Creating Public Awareness of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) organized by the ASEAN Secretariat. At this meeting, three focus areas were identified: agriculture-related GMOs and their derived products, safety aspects of GMOs and their derived foods, and biodiversity. A joint paper on the concepts of GMO Risk Assessment by Dr. David Neumann, ILSI Risk Science Institute (RSI) and Mrs. Yeong Boon Yee, ILSI SEA, was presented at the meeting. ILSI's technical assistance was sought in the development of a scientific, educational, and capacity-building program for government officials and scientists within ASEAN.
