The branch joined with the Malaysian Institute for Medical Research, the Nutrition Society of Malaysia, CDC, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in organizing a seminar and workshop on Nutrition Status Assessment and Conduct of National Nutrition Surveys in Southeast Asia, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The seminar addressed issues and problems related to dietary, anthropometric, and biochemical methods to assess nutritional status in countries within the region. Forty government personnel from the region, who are involved in the development and implementation of national dietary surveys, were invited to the workshop. Attendees discussed the best methods for the assessment of the nutritional status of communities and explored the potential harmonization of methods used by the ASEAN countries. The aim was to help ensure compatibility of survey results, and the development of a reference guide for data management.
